The journey into the world of personality began in 1981, when Carol was first introduced to the Meyers Briggs Type Indicator. At a crossroads in her professional career, she reached out to a career counselor who administered the MBTI™ to help her understand her personality and the strengths associated with it. During the follow up meeting, while the counselor was sharing the information it became clear to Carol that she wanted to learn all she could about personality and commit her talents to sharing this understanding with other people. That one single event led to the development of the Personality Color Indicator (PCI)™ and the birth of the Ritberger Personality Method™ in 1983.
Carol realized early on in the process that there was more to personality than what was revealed through learned behavior. She realized that there are inherent qualities of personality that consistently and predictably drive how we think and how we act. Through years of research, she found that the connection lies in our neurological hardwiring as it pertains to gathering information, processing information and making decisions. She discovered that while we learn to adapt and adjust to situations and experiences, this inherent quality remains the same throughout life. That understanding is a game changer in how we see ourselves and other people. Understanding personality at this level reveals why we get along with some people and not others. Why we succeed at some tasks and not others. Why we’re attracted to some people and not others. Why we use the words we do to communicate, and what creates conflict. She discovered that our personality impacts and influences every aspect of who we are.

Personality is a powerful tool for understanding yourself and others, and for creating relationships based on mutual respect and satisfaction. It opens the doors for people to embrace their uniqueness, understand why they’re different from other people, let go of limited self-perceptions in a healthy positive way, and utilize the strength-based talents associated with their personality color. However, personality is also a vehicle that can be presented in a way that creates biases and prejudices that can be hurtful and harmful if not presented with integrity, sensitivity, and compassion from knowledge based on extensive training and certification.
